First-Day Administrator Tasks
Your appliance arrives with the cluster deployed and storage initialized, so there is no installation to perform. This page covers what to check and configure on day one.
Step 1: Verify System Health
Navigate to Dashboard. Confirm:
- System state is Ready
- Total capacity matches your appliance specification
- No active critical alerts
Then open Hardware → Nodes — every node should show Ready — and Hardware → Drives, where every data drive should show Healthy and In Cluster.
If the state is Degraded or Failed, the banner at the top of the page names each cause and its suggested remedy. See Troubleshooting.
Step 2: Create Named Administrator Accounts
Navigate to Identity & Access → Users & Groups → + Create and create a named account for
each administrator. Using the delivered admin account for day-to-day management is not
recommended.
Assign a role based on the account's responsibilities — see Roles Reference.
Keep at least two accounts with the super_admin role. The system refuses to delete, revoke,
or demote the last active super administrator, but a single super administrator with a lost
password still means a recovery procedure. See
Locked out of the Dashboard.
Step 3: Connect a Directory Server (optional)
Navigate to Identity & Access → Auth Settings to connect an LDAP directory or an OIDC provider so users sign in with their existing corporate accounts. Directory groups can be assigned system roles and volume-group scopes from the group detail page; membership itself stays under the directory's control.
Step 4: Route Alerts Somewhere You Will See Them
Navigate to System → Notifications and enable Slack and/or email delivery, then use Send test alert to verify the route end to end before you rely on it. See Alerts and Notifications.
Step 5: Create Your First Volume Group and Volume
Once the system is Ready, you can provision storage. See Managing Storage for a step-by-step walkthrough.
Step 6: Install the CLI on Client Machines
Clients mount volumes with mass-ctl. See the CLI Reference for the supported
platforms and installation steps.
Changing the Cluster Configuration Later
Adding or removing storage engines, changing a node's fabric address, or swapping a fabric NIC is done from the reconfigure screen — see Reconfiguring the Cluster. To add storage nodes, contact MangoBoost support through System → Support.
Software Updates
Navigate to System → Updates to check the current version and apply updates. See Software Updates.
